Those are the words of one Bellevue High School student as she walked through the school’s new cafeteria and commons area, above. Students now eat lunch, study, hang out and check into high school offices in the new area, while other parts of the addition wait for student sneakers, including the gymnasium, stage, hall of pride and district offices. The inanimate, white figure in at left corner is a product of an art history class and is reading about skydiving.
“This week we made a lot of progress,” said community school district superintendent Mike Healy Friday. Last week, workers were laying the gym floor and finishing woodwork in the hall of pride, where glass is expected to go in cabinets this week. After completion, Healy said the district will open the new spaces to tours and at least one open house, though he hesitated to give a time frame for the events. The district had hoped to finish construction by the start of the school year.
