Moore beats Schueller

When the votes were tallied from each county, they didn’t match the state’s website report early on the morning after election day. It was the difference between victory and defeat for Iowa House of Representatives candidates Tom Schueller and Brian Moore.

Republican challenger Moore beat three-term incumbent Schueller in a startling upset in House District 25. In the open race for Iowa State Senate District 13 between Democrat Tod Bowman and Republican Andrew Naeve, Bowman holds the lead by a hair.

The Schueller-Moore race is beyond the margin of one percent, or 50 votes, needed for a candidate to request a recount without posting a bond. With late-arriving absentee ballots, the Bowman-Naeve race is within that margin, but Naeve said that he did not yet know if he would request a recount.
