Committee struggles to locate, engineer and pay for expanded docks

Bellevue’s main street is largely one-sided. On one side are storefronts. Across the highway are a few buildings, a narrow park and the Mississippi River.

If you ask Daryll Eggers, Dave Trost or other members of “the dock committee,” that big river is another highway bringing potential visitors, and their dollars, to town.

They think that a place to tie up a boat is essential to the growth of tourism in Bellevue, but they face significant “obstacles” in permitting and financing, admits Eggers, the committee’s chair. The group has been working on plans and potential locations for about two years.

There is a place to tie up a boat in town now. It’s just not very big or fancy. The city of Bellevue has owned and maintained 72 feet of dock at the foot of Rose Street, near the firemen’s memorial, since 1988.
