Slick roads and blizzard-like conditions contributed to three Highway 64 traffic accidents causing property damage Friday and Saturday. Only about three inches of snow fell in Jackson County, but the “blizzard” came from high winds blowing snow Saturday and Sunday. At Dubuque regional airport, winds hit 47 miles per hour at about 3 a.m. Sunday.
By Saturday, all of Iowa’s 99 counties were under a blizzard warning. A towing ban covered much of eastern Iowa.
Across the Midwest, a reported six people died as a result of the storm.
Hundreds of flights were cancelled, and the roof of the Minnesota Vikings’ stadium collapsed spectacularly under the weight of 15 inches of snow.
More snow is expected Wednesday evening.
